I am not an artist. That is an understatement. Sketching ideas is still my weakest point when it comes to crochet designing, even after years of it. I'd much rather take the time and crochet my idea in real life. But I have sold quite a few designs using swatches and sketches to represent my idea. It's comforting to know that even my simple sketches do the job when I look at an old sketch after the finished model is in print, and thinking, "Hey! That really does looks like the vest!"
Here's what I mean. Original sketch submitted to the magazine...
...and voila! what it looks like in real life. The only difference from the original sketch is closing the vest at the waist with hooks and eyes instead of a frog.
That makes me feel like a Rockwell! (But just the same, I'd rather crochet than sketch any day!)
